UIUX Case Study
ID Buddy is an AR-powered system designed to make ID recovery simple, secure, and efficient. Through augmented reality, students can locate and confirm their lost ID using an interactive interface, while their personal information stays protected. If another student finds a lost ID, the system enables them to securely email the owner, creating a direct connection that helps reunite students with their IDs quickly. By blending technology with accessibility, ID Buddy ensures students can stay focused on their college experience with confidence and peace of mind.

Problem Statement
College students frequently lose their ID cards, which
are essential for daily activities (meals, dorm access, events, etc.).
Current Solution:
-
The school offers one free replacement, then charges $20 per
lost ID.
-
Students rely on Fizz posts to report lost IDs.
The Gaps:
-
Not all students use Fizz.
-
No direct way to contact the ID owner.

Objectives of the Project

What Is Ferpa?
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a U.S. federal law enacted in 1974 that protects the privacy of student education records. It gives parents of students under 18, and eligible students over 18, the right to:
-
Access and review their education records.
-
Request corrections to any inaccuracies in those records.
-
Control disclosure of personally identifiable information in the education records, with some exceptions.
The law ensures that students’ academic, financial, and disciplinary records are kept private unless consent is given, or disclosure is allowed by specific exceptions.

I conducted a Google survey to better understand how often students lose their IDs, their frustrations with the current recovery process, and what solutions they would find helpful.

How do I protect students’ data and privacy?
If a student opts out of sharing their information, the system still allows them to be notified when their ID is found, ensuring privacy while maintaining a path to recovery.
